Volunteer With Habitat for Humanity
We build together, and it starts with people like you. Whether you’ve never swung a hammer or you’re ready to jump onto a build site, you can help create safe, affordable homes in Wayne County.
Volunteers Are the Heart of Our Work
You Don’t Need Experience — Just a Willingness to Help
We know it can feel intimidating to volunteer if you don’t have construction skills or a lot of free time. That’s why we’ve built a volunteer experience that meets you where you are. We provide the training, the tools, and the support—you bring the willingness to show up. Together, we turn that effort into real homes, real progress, and real change across Wayne County.

Volunteer Opportunities for Everyone
Individuals, Groups, and Community Members Welcome
Individuals
Join us and work alongside others who are committed to building something meaningful. Whether it’s your first time or you’ve volunteered before, there’s a place for you here.
Groups
Volunteering together builds more than homes—it builds connection. We welcome companies, churches, service clubs, and organizations to join us for group volunteer days that create lasting impact.
Youth Involvement
We’re committed to creating a safe and positive experience for younger volunteers while helping them get involved in their community.
Ages 16–17
Volunteers can participate in construction with limitations. They may not use power tools, work on ladders or scaffolding above 4 feet, or participate in roofing. A signed waiver and adult supervision are required.
Ages 15 and Under
Youth under 16 are not permitted on active construction sites but may assist by bringing food and drinks during designated break times.
More Ways to Volunteer
Support the Mission Beyond the Build Site
Not everyone wants to be on a construction site—and that’s okay. There are many ways to volunteer at Habitat for Humanity.
ReStore Support
Help keep our ReStore running by assisting customers, organizing inventory, and processing donations. Every item you handle helps fund local homebuilding.
Events & Outreach
Support community events and outreach efforts that bring people together and expand awareness of affordable housing in Wayne County.
Admin & Organization
Help behind the scenes with administrative tasks, coordination, and organization that keep our programs running smoothly.

Common Questions About Volunteering
What You Need to Know Before You Get Started
Do I need construction experience to volunteer?
No. You don’t need any prior experience to get involved. We provide training and guidance on-site, and many of our volunteers are first-timers. Whether you’re painting, organizing, or helping on a build, we’ll make sure you feel confident and supported.
How do I volunteer for Habitat in Wayne County?
Getting started is simple. You can reach out to our team to learn about current opportunities or sign up for a volunteer day. Whether you’re interested in construction, the ReStore, or events, we’ll help match you with the right fit.
What types of volunteer opportunities are available?
You can volunteer on build sites, help at the Habitat ReStore, assist with events, or join as part of a group. There are opportunities for individuals, families, and organizations—so you can get involved in a way that works for you.
Is there an age requirement to volunteer?
Yes. Volunteers must typically be at least 16 years old to work on construction sites, with a signed waiver and adult supervision required for those under 18. Youth under 16 are not permitted on active construction sites but may help in limited ways during designated times.
Can groups volunteer together?
Absolutely. We welcome companies, churches, schools, and community groups to volunteer together. Group build days are a great way to give back while building stronger connections within your team.
How flexible is volunteering?
Very flexible. You can volunteer for a single day, join occasionally, or get involved more regularly. Even a few hours can make a meaningful difference in helping us build homes and support families.
